Set in the foothills of the Karakorum Range and at an altitude of 9,250 feet with a geographical extent is latitude 34.8238147 and longitude 76.9364083. Chulungkha in Turtuk is one of the most charming mountain resorts in the Nubra Valley, UT of Ladakh. Chulungkha has grown into a small self-sufficient village, where in its serene surroundings and crystalline air, flourish the young minds.

Government High School Chulungkha, established in the year 1975 as a Primary School, upgraded to a Middle School in 2006 and the subsequent upgradation to High School in the year 2022 is a co-educational school catering to the students of Chulungkha from Classes Nursery to 8th. The school intends to cater to students upto class 10th in the near future.

The teaching staff consists of trained teachers most of whom reside on the campus itself.
The school with its upgraded facilities and dedicated staff, strives to provide quality education to its students while ensuring their safety and well-being. The school aims to create a nurturing environment where students can grow academically, socially, ethically and personally.

Affiliation

The school enjoys the patronage of the Directorate of School Education, UT of Ladakh, whereas, since its upgradation to High School, the process of affiliation to CBSE is underway.

 

School Infrastructure


Government High School Chulungkha, located at latitude 34.8238147 and longitude 76.9364083, recently underwent an upgrade from a middle school to a high school. The school is situated in a serene environment and consists of three blocks.

Block 1 serves as the administrative block, housing the school's office room and three classrooms. This block provides a centralized space for administrative tasks and ensures smooth functioning of the school. The office room acts as a hub for various administrative activities, such as record-keeping, staff coordination, and communication with parents and authorities.

Block 2 primarily focuses on academics, offering three additional classrooms for students' educational needs. These classrooms are equipped with necessary facilities to facilitate effective teaching and learning. The block provides a conducive environment for students to engage in their studies and interact with their teachers and peers.

Block 3 is dedicated to the school's mid-day meal kitchen. This kitchen serves as the central facility for preparing and serving nutritious meals to the students. It adheres to the government guidelines for providing healthy and balanced meals to ensure the well-being of the students.

Government High School Chulungkha has a total of 55 students enrolled, indicating a moderate-sized student body. This allows for personalized attention and better student-teacher interaction. The school boasts 11 teaching staff members who are responsible for imparting knowledge and guiding the students in their academic journey. Additionally, there are four non-teaching staff members who contribute to the smooth functioning of the school by assisting in various administrative and support tasks.

In terms of safety measures, the premises of the school are equipped with two fire extinguishers of the ABC type, each weighing 2kg. These fire extinguishers are essential in case of fire emergencies and ensure the safety of students, staff, and the property. Furthermore, there are three sand buckets available to tackle small fire incidents. Alongside these fire safety measures, the school also has a plastic water tank with a capacity of 500 liters, which can be utilized for firefighting purposes if needed.
